Kimmy is Superior in Marquette

Friday Night Twilight Criterium: Kim Chapman participated in the Womens CAT 1/2/3 and finished on the podium in 3rd place (1st for Cat 3).  Team tactics played pivotal as the well represented Priority Health and Haggarty Racing Teams played it perfectly.

Saturday Road Races:

Womens CAT 1/2/3: Kim was on the podium again finishing 2nd overall (top Cat 3) in the 55 mile (88km) Women's State Championship.  Once again Priority Health and Haggarty played the team card quite well making Kim's second place all the more impressive considering that she had no team support and beat out some CAT 1 and 2s.  This is State Champs folks so this is an incredible result.  Me thinks a CAT upgrade is in order.  Way to go Kim!

By the way - it was a treat to see Kim totally gut out the last 200 meters as she just edged out one of the Haggarty girls.  Man did that look like it hurt.

Men's CAT 5 55 Mile Road Race: Great showing by Big J finishing an impressive 4th and just off the podium.  There was a significant amount of climbing on this course so that's a hard fought result for the big man.  After coming off the leaders at the top of the last big climb Jay fought back  and got in good position for the final sprint.  Great job J!

Men's CAT 3 55 Mile Road Race:  it was a hard day of agressive racing and I finished safely in the main pack.  You just don't realize how difficult it is when you don't have team-mates and well represented teams are playing tactics.  There were lots of attacks and early break attempts in the first hour of racing.  I marked quite a few attacks and was able to get myself into a break in the first half.   After getting caught by the peleton another break went and that was the one that stuck.  I tried to get some cooperation going but the two biggest teams were represented in the break up the road so it was difficult.

In the end I was quite pleased with the sensations I felt during the race (a bit of Euro talk for you).  A mechanical mishap in the last 4 miles prevented me from making a move for a top ten spot as my shifter cable snapped while I was in the 11 forcing me to grind the last 4 miles in the 53/11.  That hurt alot.

In all it was a fantastic weekend.  Thanks for reading.
