Highway 17 East Update
The Ontario Ministry of Transport (MTO) is currently studying the possibility of replacing the current Hwy 17/638 and Hwy 17/Watson’s Road at grade interchanges in the Echo Bay area with a single overpass type interchange. On Wednesday October 7th the MTO together with the consulting engineering firm of GENIVAR held a "Public Information Centre" at the Echo Bay Community Hall. The stated purpose of the project is to "upgrade Highway 17 to a full freeway standard at Echo Bay east of the City of Sault Ste Marie. This will include eliminating all at grade intersections and entrances and providing access to Highway 17 via an interchange". Denis has written a report from the meeting and provided his commentary.
