Elliot Lake O Cup 2009

Four Sauties did the Sault proud in this weekend's Jewel of the Wilderness Ontario Cup Road Race in Elliot Lake.  The stage race included a Hill Climb Time Trial and a Criterium on Saturday followed by a Road Race on Sunday.  Local participants included Scott Elgie, Jason Luther, Mika Jyla and Kim Chapman.  Yours truly along other roudy locals provided some moral support.

On Saturday's Provincial Hill Climb Championship, Scottie raised some eyebrows skorching the 3.5km climb in 7 minutes and 14 seconds.  This was good for second place with the top finisher being an established pro (one who will be locking horns with the Astanas, Garmins, Saxos in the upcoming Tour of Missouri).  Not too shabby if you ask me.  Scott beat out many Provincial Elite Riders.

Kimmy took top honours in the Womens Master/S3 category and an impressive 3rd amongst all women (being beaten only by a couple of Elites) in the Hill Climb.

There were some grumblings amonsgst fellow cyclists that Scotty was in the wrong category after his impressive performance in the hill climb; however due to OCA restrictions he was forced to ride S4/M3 (though he is more suited for S1/2).  Scotty handed it to the competition in both the Crit and the Road Race.  Mika provided some great support tactics in both races and also finished a very impressive 3rd overall in the Stage Race.  Mr. Luther also performed very admirably in his domestique duties.

Kimmy also took top honours in both the road race and the crit and impressively held on with the men in the road race (there were combined starts).

Way to go everyone.  It was great to see our colours shining bright.
